Cannabis & CBD for Huntington's Disease

Cannabis and CBD For Huntington's Disease

Huntington's Disease (HD) is a genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain, leading to symptoms such as involuntary movements, difficulty with balance and coordination, and cognitive and behavioral changes. While there is currently no cure for HD, treatment is primarily focused on managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the use of cannabis and CBD (cannabidiol) as a treatment option for HD. But what does the research say? Can cannabis and CBD really help with HD symptoms?

According to a review of the available evidence published in the journal Frontiers in Neurology, cannabis and CBD may have potential as a treatment for specific symptoms of HD. The study found that cannabis and CBD helps with muscle spasms, pain, and inflammation, all of which are common in individuals with HD.

One study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology found that CBD effectively reduced the frequency and severity of muscle spasms in individuals with HD. Another study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that cannabis effectively reduced pain and improved sleep in individuals with HD.

In addition to their potential as muscle relaxants and pain relievers, cannabis and CBD may also have anti-inflammatory effects, which bednefits those with HD who have inflammation in the brain.
